Okay, my 1999 RS has plastic lensed headlights that I believe are from DEPO. These are nice and clear and look good. However light output is crap due to the garbage HID setup. I'm contemplating either good Halogen lights or possibly a nice HID retrofit with projectors - so far so good.
It was mentioned to me that glass lenses are better - duh. I thought that only JDM lenses would be clear like what I've got and made of glass - the crystal lenses. Since that's a RHD vehicle I don't want this JDM part and was going to use the housings I've got. But, I believe I've seen other RS with clear lenses like mine that have glass. Researching I've gotten some indication that the later 99-2001 cars got clear lenses similar to the DEPO housings and were made of quality glass - is that so? Finding pictures of stock RS is pretty difficult so I'm not sure. I realize that I might need to open them up and paint portions of the unused reflector black to get it to look best, that's not a big problem for me.
IF that's the case - where's the best place to find a set? So far I've found most of the parts places run between $150ish and $160ish for each housing, can that price be easily beat someplace and get me what I want?
If I can find a set of clear lenses made of glass for LHD I might try standard halogen bulbs first before doubling my cost and doing the projectors. If these are available it seems silly to take the time to modify the plastic lenses and not get the glass.
Thanks! Hopefully this is an easy question :-)
