So I have a few issues, all of which could very well be related to a fuel issue. We'll start with the starting. My car normally starts fine cold but if you drive it to normal temps then turn it off and start it again 50% chance the starter goes, engine catches, starter stops, engine sputters then rpm shoots up (or have to jab the gas) then goes "normal". I put normal in parenthesis because it also has an intermittent idle.
The IAC has been thoroughly cleaned and it worked for about a day but most of the time it idles at 1000-1200. Then some days it goes the whole day idling at 600. Also, when starting cold I can smell a bit of what I believe to be coolant, kind of a sweet smell. I changed the oil two weeks or so ago and there was no coolant in there, there was however a bit of gas. It's also got new plugs, old ones were clean, and a new oil filter.
And the final issue which I think is the biggest indicator it's a fuel issue is when you open the gas cap it sounds like you've just opened some pop. This has all been going on for months but I've just moved to Canada and the past 2 days it has taken longer than normal to start and it almost refused to start after getting gas (and after releasing the pressure in the tank, possibly related?). I had to crank it and jab the gas to get it going, there was no indication it was going to fire on it's own.
I have not checked or replaced the fuel filter or charcoal canister, so I'll probably start there. Anything in particular I should look for?
Also, phase I ej22e and 4 eat if it makes a difference.
Edit: forgot an important tidbit, there is a CEL for coolant temp circuit (my reader says sensor, another says circuit).
