History is doomed to repeat itself

Does anyone remember that quote that goes something like this, "History is doomed to repeat itself."

We The United States has been a world super power for a long time and if history has anything to teach us we might fall the same way as the Roman Empire did. Can anyone share with me why they think that The United States could possibly follow in the foot steps of repeating history.
