Rev Hang (2005 2.5RS)

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone has attempted to reduce the rev hang that is noticeable with most new cars. It seems it is programmed in the ECU to not suddenly cut fuel when the throttle is closed, for emissions purposes I assume.

Is there an easy way to defeat this? I have noticed it on many cars and it really takes the fun away when you shift up and have to slip the clutch to bring the revs down, unless you want to just wait and granny shift.

One solution I've found is to turn on the AC compressor, and the extra load brings the engine speed down quickly, but this is a ridiculous solution.

Another thing while I'm at it: is it beneficial to wrap the stock headers once exposed? I am planning on removing the main heat shields as they are ALL rattling and it drives me nuts. I am also trying to improve the NVH characteristics, and I was wondering if anyone noticed a reduction in exhaust noise after wrapping headers or even parts of the exhaust system.
