Its the 21st century and we have our share of distractions but I know people still read good ole books in between the shuffling of everyday life. I'm looking for some quality reading, not just best sellers but personal preferences that you have gotten attached to, or intrigued by. Nonfic, Fic, sci fi, we all have our choices.
Name some books that you recommend, with perhaps a brief synopsis. I'll start:
All Souls by Michael Patrick MacDonald--Book I had to read last semester about living in Irish south Boston around the Boston Busing crisis, and living under Whitey Bulger's control over South Boston. It gives an interesting perspective of those who were opposed to the busing crisis whose voices would usually be silenced. That stance is neither apologetic nor prideful, but clears the "single story" that you hear that mark the Irish Bostonians as just racist, when there was more behind their actions. Its a sad story of crime and death, but a very awakening one that resounded with me, as I'm a Bostonian and was poor informed on this period of time. Its a two-week read, and easy to follow.
Keep them coming!
